My Disability Advocacy Video Series: “It’s About Ability!”

Sample original video content I’ve created to highlight:

This video series was created by me from scratch. I wrote the scripts, designed the visuals, based on what was available in Canva. This application has some animation capability, along with copyright clear music tracks, which I used to full advantage. I do not use and will never apply AI generated visuals, and scripts, as that goes against every fibre of my being as an artist and a human being.

Given the subject matter of disability, and the lack of consistent representation, I put together my own slide visuals as needed, while adhering to consistency of presentation.

I felt compelled to create the “It’s About Ability!” series, simply because the theme of disability as a creative force is often forgotten when famous people become part of the overall cultural fabric of our society. We are all too often described as simply inspirational, when the reality runs much deeper.

My biggest point of pride with this series, was a comment on the video below, made by David Onley, the late Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, who himself grew up with polio. On seeing this video posted on social media, Onley was reminded of himself as a young boy. In Franklin Delano Roosevelt, his parents gave him an example of great possibility, and his life became a testament to that. There are six one minute videos in this series and I hope you take the time to enjoy and reflect on each one of them!
